Another thrill as Workin For Hops runs a game 3rd in
THE SWOONS SON STAKES RACE AT ARLINGTON
June 8th, we decided to step up the Hopster bigtime and enter him into the Swoons Son Overnight Stakes Race for a whopping $65,000 purse running a mile and 1/16th over the lush turf of Arlington Park. Main Jock Eddie Perez was returned back to the the irons and we were cautiously optimistic as the Hopster had been training very well up to this race.
Alas, even though we only had 6 other entrants in this race, 2 of them were real bears. One of them, Corporate Jungle, had just run in a Breeders Cup race last November, and another called Keep Up, was just a real good horse that would be running like a locomotive late.
The race setup had us going to the lead and around the racetrack we ran in front, right into the stretch. Eddie gave him his head and the Hopster accelerated a bit, but the 2 monsters we were afraid of came running like we feared and ran us down late in the stretch.
We found out later that the winner, Keep Up will next run in the Arlington Million and we finished a scant 3 lengths behind him... Hmmmm....
However, I was proud of the Hopster for gamely hanging onto 3rd and bringing us home a nice check - which is now 4 times in the money in a row! We had over 50 Rabbits in attendance on this beautiful day and all had a thrill watching the Hopster give 'em all he had.
Checkout all the stuff below. Picture right is of Ben and Eddie fighting on who gets to ride the Hopster. Special thanks go to official RRR Photograhers Jameson Batz and Margaret Burlingham for the fine photographs that they took that can be seen below.
As tipped before, Red Rabbit Racing is being featured in a season long series produced by Jessica Pacheco and Arlington Park. In Episode 3, RRR is the topic of the entire 2nd half with an update through the Swoons Son race. All the way down is a 2 picture panel of Ben being interviewed for the 'RaceHorse' series by Jessica with cinematographer Stephanie capturing it all.
THE HOPSTER CAME OUT OF THE RACE JUST FINE & WE NOW LOOK FOR HIS NEXT ADVENTURE!
